Alehm position paper on National Scores on the Doors scheme

At the Alehm AGM, held last Friday, the 22 January, the attached resolution developed by the London Food Coordination Group was unanimously adopted by the meeting.

It illustrates the concern felt by London EH Managers. They support the principle of a national scheme, are disappointed with the changes made to the scheme piloted in London and are concerned that the potential demand for additional resources required to implement the national scheme will put its long term viability at risk.

Tim Everett, CIEH policy director, commented:

The CIEH wants to see a genuinely national scheme in place, and has worked with the FSA to try and achieve this. We understand concerns about re-scoring, particularly at a a time when council resources are under heavy pressure. The other issue for us is how quickly any new website can be operational, as this is an important tool in helping consumers make effective choices.

Further information about this resolution is available from Rick Mason at or Keith Hill.
