Since 2008 the Health Protection Agency have sponsored Alehm to undertake work to improve coordination of work across London to improve public health outcomes.

It is known that the work of local authorities varies in response to the investigation of infectious diseases. The causes of variation includes: population, local social factors, economic factors, available resources, and the relationship between environmental health departments (EHDs) and Health Protection Units (HPUs). The Association of London Environmental Health Managers (Alehm), Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) created a joint London environmental health post in late 2008.

First year student, Siân Hale, has been appointed joint London environmental health professional for 2010. Siân's 12-month, part-time post is funded by the Health Protection Agency and the Association of London Environmental Heath Managers and supported by the CIEH.
She will continue the work of student EHP Camilla Bourn, converting her study on the reporting of gastrointestinal infectious disease in London into a set of recommendations.

Further to our successful appointment last year, Alehm are now looking for an individual to take this project forward. The post is a salaried fixed term (one year) appointment for a student who is currently undertaking a postgraduate degree in Public or Environmental Health.
