Local authorities and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are responsible for enforcing health and safety legislation. London environmental health services successfully coordinate interventions both across London and together with the HSE.
Alehm is the main forum for planning and coordinating this work across London, with the HSE Partnership Manager attending Alehm meetings, and a London Environmental Health manager being seconded to work in the HSE's London partnership team.

Protocol for London Boroughs to deal effectively across borough boundaries with incidents of legionella. Boroughs are asked to sign up to the protocol to ensure it is fully operational and will be used across London should there be any incidents of legionella during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
It's really important that EHPs responds positively and assertively. The CIEH want to consult members widely using focus groups to help prepare their response and are holding a free workshop.
Gas Safe are free running a gas safety training course on 14 July for LA colleagues.

Last year the HSE received 97% of London's LAE1 returns. Alehm encourage all London colleagues to try and achieve a similarly high rate this year.
So, if you haven't already done so, please:
- submit your authorities LAE1 return for 2010-11; and
- update the prosecution database on the HSE's extranet.
