Alehm have responded to the Food Standards Agency's consultation about scoring and banding issues for the proposed national scores on the doors scheme.

The consultation asks for views on a top tier banding of either; a total of 0-5 points, based upon the code of practice scoring scheme for hygiene, structure and confidence in management, which is the method used in the current London scheme, or a total of 0-15 points, which is favoured by industry representatives.

Views were also sought on the level at which a premises deemed 'broadly compliant' as defined in the code of practice, should be placed in a 6 tier scheme. The FSA favour the equivalent of the current 3 star level, rather than the 2 star level used in the London scheme, because consumer research shows customers are less likely to go to a 2 star premises in a 6 tier scheme.

Alehm have argued that the existing scheme is working effectively and that concerns raised by the Food Standards Agency, industry and LBRO can be adequately addressed with clear guidance for officers.
